I'm going to be putting an enclosure into the trunk of my 2004 BMW 325ci. It will hold two 10 inch subs. I am a little older now, and I don't need massive booming bass, I want my music to sound great with high quality bass output for all kinds of music. What are my best options for high quality SQ subs in the $150-200 price range? The enclosure will provide a little more than a cubic foot of airspace total, and will be sealed. Thanks!

Oh....and I have an MTX 421D amp that is a few years old..I believe it puts out 420 watts at 2 ohms, so if I could drive the subs at 2 ohms, that would give me the most bang for the buck. Otherwise I'm looking for a new amp as well.

is that $200 per woofer?
if so, you could do JL 10w3's

Yes, I was thinking $200 a woofer. I will look into the JL's.

Also, PLEASE look into TCSounds. For 240 dollars, you can get BOTH of your woofers... A very good match for that amplifier, you could safely put both woofers in that airspace, and be pretty satisfied. The drivers I am thinking of, specifically, are the TC-1000. FANTASTIC sounding woofers, they should really be considered seriously. If you haven't built the enclosure yet, build it for ONE wofer, get the DVC version, and run all 400 watts to the one. You wouldn't be disappointed in the results.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I'm open to all suggestions, I'll look at the TC's as well. Are you saying to just get the one 10? Or do they come in 12's as well?

I do have one more kind of newbie question to ask....regarding the output of my amp. It is rated for about 400 watts rms into 2 ohms or half that into 4 ohms. If I wired up two dvc 2 ohm subs in parallel, would the amp be pushing the full power to each amp, or would it be split between the two? In the meantime, I'll play around with the calculators and wiring diagrams on this site to learn more. Thanks!

One TC-1000 DVC4 ohm, wired in parallel to that amp would sound FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC. 2 ohms, 400 watts. A perfect match. Also, 1 cube is ideal, for maximum extension for one 10. You would have very good power handling, and the best deep bass response, going that way.
They do come in a 12", and that would be a little louder, for the same power input, but wouldn't necessarily go any deeper. It, too, would match very well to a 1 cube enclosure, with the same amount of power...

dayum, your right...those subs look bad *** for the money. I've never heard of them before, but they definitely deserve a closer look.

TC is the OEM for Eclipse Ti's (possibly the aluminums as well, not sure of that) and RF Power series of woofers. They have been around for years as an OEM, and have only recently realized they can make more money selling to the public ALSO... I have the 10's, and from every enclosure design I have ever built for them in the computer (have not implemented them as of yet) they will do an excellent job... REALLY worth considering, dude!

Cool, I am starting on the enclosure tomorrow. Should I use polyfill or go without? The box should be at just about 1 cube plus allowance for the woofer displacement.
