Hi, my system is as follows:

Sony X-Plode 50x4 head unit.

front: 5" facory speakers

rear: Clarion 6x9's

The installation went well, but the sound is fishy.... lots of quality high and mids, but hardly any low bass. I know there's no amp, but I've heard other systems, and there's just got to be something wrong. Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Youre speakers may be out of phase. Try reversing the positive and negative on one of the speakers. Also there will be less bass if there is a gap between the speaker and what it is mounted to.

"Poping" the speaker can be easier to test for phase then listening. Use a 9v battery, and run a wire from + (battery) to + (speaker), and - (battery) to - (speaker). If the cone of the speaker pops outward, then it is in phase and you have the + and - connections correct. If the cone sucks inward, then it is wired out of phase. Simply reverse the + and - wires and it will be back in phase.

Dose the head unit have a built in X-Over?

Hmmm.... I don't know if it has a x-over or not. I spoke with a car audio technician yesterday... he said there's probably nothing wrong with the speakers or the deck.... the problem is the car. He said the factory mounts for my rear speakers probably suck, being a hatchback, and the because the speaker location is within the side pannel moldings. He suggested buying a sub. So, that's probably what i'll do. Thanks for responding tho.

Well if you do have a built in Xover it could be set so your rears are not getting any lower frequencies. But if you are unhappy with the low end the best thing to do is get a sub.
