adding subs to 2003 Jetta

Hello To All, My name is Rob nice to meet you all. My cousin has a 2003 Jetta and he asked me to install subs for him. I agreed considering that he is my cousin and installing subs is a piece of cake. Well man was I surprised, when I got to his car lol. 1.The first thing that went wrong. His buddy has the keys to pull out the DD factory unit (non monsoon) so he went at it to take the radio, well he pulled so hard that the faceplate ripped off the radio unit and the radio still doesn't want to come off. Also the faceplate doesn't want to clip in all the way now. 2. Well since that cant be taken out, it makes my life a lot harder trying to figure out how I am going to wire into his car the subs. - So I came up with this conclusion: I ordered 2 speaker harnesses for the Jetta, One is the regular aftermarket one you can buy anywhere, I bought mine from tweeter, and the other one is an aftermarket harness that plugs into the stock radio (it goes into the car). The model is a metra gsxl 71-9003. I fugured if i can get my hand behind the radio than I can plug the two harnesses into the original spots and everything would be dandy lol. - I also have a LOC with the harness. Right now i have not started soldering anything because I come to you for some advice on, where I can hook up the remote turn on wire and any other precaution I should know about since I am not very familiar with vw's. Any help that you could offer I would greatly appreciate. Thank you for your time and assistance and have a great day.

Why don't you just use the rear speaker outputs for a LOC or if the amplifier has high level inputs, you can just use those. If it's not the Monsoon system, then the output at the rear speakers will be sufficient enough for an LOC or the amplifier input.Jeff

Wow.. i m gonna be removing a Jetta dash soon does anybody knows how to get that radio out?? Also i m gonna be doing it with out those 4 little tools that you put on each corner to take it out. Is there a way to remove the dash and just unscrew it from there on??? If yes how and do the front plastics just pop out or what?

It's one of the easiest radio installs you will ever do. Some people prefer to take the dash apart and remove the head unit in one piece, some prefer to just rip the head unit apart piece by piece until there's just a hole where it used to be. Don't knock this guy for being different.
