Hi, I am interested in this MECP basic certification. I am going to take the exam sometime soon. Has anyone taken this exam before? I would like to take the exam, but am worried abut it. English is not my native laguage, so it would be difficult for me. Does anyone have sample questions of basic certification? If you know where I can learn about wiring or ohms law, please let me know. Thank you.

I searched that they offer the test in Spanish, but my langage is Japanese. There is no info about the exam in Japanese, so I assume they don't offer the test in Japanese. I will try the sample questions. The biggest problem is I don't understand English vocabularies. I should try the sample test, and better know what kind of questions they ask. I should start learning technical terms instead of complaining about language problem. Thank you for your help. I will try to do my best.

I tried the online test when I was studying for the exam and failed it, I knew I didn't do that badly so I retook the online test with the book, copied the answers from the book and I still failed, seems there was something wrong with the website, hope they fixed it by now.

I couldn't find a used study guide, but found out the ISBN. I will try to order the book from the bookstore nearby my house. I hope I can buy it from the bookstore. I might be able to save shipping cost.

Hi wotugot4me,

I have a question for you. Are the sample questions and real exam pretty much the same? I will go to the bookstore and order the study gide (book) later, but wanna know if the book helps me alot or not.

Even though I am certified (basic, first class and master) I only scored a 90 on that sample exam..but I scored a 98 on the real test. So there is something wrong there. Some of those questions really made little sense. The real test is longer (150 questions) but worded in an easier to understand way, pretty much right out of the book.but you still have to watch for little "word plays" they use. It was worse but since the revision it is not nearly as bad..in other words it is more a test of industry knowledge then a test of how well you can understand what they are actually asking..if you understand that..lol I know some of the old schoolers do.

I used to train others for and proctor the exam. It is really not that hard once you get the basics on ohms law, relays, tools and shop safety and some audio terminology down. Remember, you do not need to score 100%...you need to average 70% or better to pass..but you can not score below 70% on any 1 of 3 sections or you flunk.

Many fail the first time but do much better the 2nd time since they know what to expect..but some pass it the first time. It doesn't hurt to study up and ask for help in areas you have trouble with. Many here including myself will be able to help if you wish to take the exam.

Good Luck and don't let anyone including yourself hold you back. You can never lose by gaining experiences.
