I want to have an LED hooked up so that when the brakelights are on, the LED comes on. But if the bulb is blown, the LED does not come on (or a red one comes on). The LED will be mounted up near the driver. This will be there to notify the driver quickly whether the light bulb is functioning.

I would put this on all the lights in the car: tail lights, reverse lights, park lights, head lights, spot lights etc to get a detailed and quick review of which bulbs are working, and which are not.

Biggest apologies if this has been addressed before, but I can't find a mention of it. If this has been covered, can I have the link to this post? Thanks in advance...

*edit*

also, i realise that you could just put the LED in series with the light bulb (for the brake light), but would that then subtract from the light emitting from the brake light? Isn't that what putting things in series does...?
