I installed a Crimestoppper RS900 V series Remote Start into a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant using a DEI 555U Module to bypass the starter kill.

The bypass ring of the DEI 555U is wrapped right around the face of the keyhole area (where the illumination comes from).  The problem i'm experiencing is that the remote start enages, cranks the starter, it turns over and runs, but exactly 5 secs later it shuts off.

I originally had it set to tach mode but decided to switch it to timed mode (1.25 sec crank) that way i can make sure its not the tach sense.

Any ideas why it shuts off after 5 secs?  Could cold weather be a factor?  Please help!

Will the remote starter work if you leave the key sitting in the ignition?  If not, then the whole 555U deal isn't the problem.  If it does work fine with the key in, then start examining your immobilizer bypass more closely.

some of the cars need to connect the ign2 wire. otherwise the car will shutdown after a few seconds.

I install Crimestopper all the time, and when it does that there is usually something wrong with the tach wire location.  Did you use the tach finder to find the correct wire?  If so, shut the car off after you connect the tach wire and if the lights stay blinking, then you have the wrong wire.

when ever you do a remote start which needs a 555u you first get everything working without the 555u with the key in the ignition, don't try the key in the ignition with the 55u conected, if it works with the key then it is the bypass if not it is something else, test number one does it work with the key?

I would follow Chris's instructions.  I have installed many RS900V's, and your symptoms point at the transponder bypass.  Im not a big fan of the 555U, if available, I use keyless bypass modules.

Mikelo,

Time to time, the remote start does work like its suppose to.  The parking lights and dash come ons, then it cranks and stays on for the set time.  So that means it cant be that the igntion2 wire isn't hooked or the car requires it right?
Mr. Fusion,
I believe i did use the tach finder and found the correct tach wire off the gauge cluster BUT i have it in manual mode now so i believe the tach being an issue shouldn't apply anymore right?  It is set to timed crank (1.25 sec) instead of tach sense.
Haku,

I will try Chris's suggestion and get back to you guys.

Is there a keyless bypass module for the Mitsubishi Galant?

If the immobilizer bypass (555u) wasn't functioning then the engine wouldn't even crank or turn-over, is this correct?

The starter would engage but would never turn over and stay running.
