I'm pretty familar with how installs are done but don't know specifics about car audio equiptment. So my first question will be is, how does a speaker work. You can give me as advanced or basic as you like. My main question is how does the sound get from the amp/radio to the speaker and produce noise. For instance speaker have two terminals +/-. Does the sound(?) travel through the positive and then back through the negative similar to power? I'm looking for advanced but anything will do, just a little curious.

Here's a description of how a speaker produces sound: http://www.bcae1.com/speaker.htm

I recommend you looking through that site as it has a lot of good information.  Also look through all the great information found on the purple bar on the left, and the stickies.
