on ob-1 vehicles, MIL or check engine lights could be resetted by disconnecting the battery for a period of time. but with ob-2 vehicles, even if you disconnect the battery, the MIL will go away, but the code will be stored in the ECM until it is interrogated by a scan tool and erased by a scan tool. theres no way to send that code away w/o a scan tool
