Im want to install remote start on a 2001 expedition. Its actually an add on to my existing factory alarm.  The only instructions that I was able to find was for a 2000 model. The colors of the wires must be different on 2001 because I did not see some of the wires that it was telling me to look for on the 2000 model. I liked to know if there is anybody that is familiar with 2001 expeditions and remote starts, or where can I find the diagram for 2001expedition.

Notes:

NOTE: This vehicle is equipted with PATS (Passive Anti Theft System). Use DEI module 555F to over-ride during remote start.  *1 Tach wire: On the 4.6L go to any of the 8 ignition coils and use the wire that is not RED / green. On the 5.4L it is a lt. GREEN / WHITE at the coil on the passenger side of the motor between the fuel injectors.  *2 The keyless module is located high in the drivers kick against the firewall.  *3 One of two. The wire is in pin 11 and it is next to the BLACK/ pink wire. Test with a digital multi-meter ONLY, to keep from damaging the circuit tied into the other lt. blue/white.  *4 The cruise control module is on the driver side fender.  *5 The GEM in this vehicle shuts down after the doors have been locked for a certain time period, to 'wake-up' the system refer to directfax document #1093.

Expeditions don't come with factory alarms. They only have keyless entry, which doesn't work when the ignition is on. Better off getting a complete remote starter and not using the factory remote.

Depending on when the 2001 was built, the 555F bypass module may not work.  The newer keys are smaller than the ones with the "removable transponder pellet" and have the blue Ford Oval.  You will have to get a new key from a dealer and use a bypass module that accepts the spare key, or use the old school method of wrapping the spare key and ignition cylinder with small gauge wire and breaking it with a relay.  Don.

Along the very bottom edge of the dash, somewhere inline with the driver's knee, should be an unused 6-pin plug; this is for a trailering harness.  Parking lights and brake are both in there.

Also, on the '98 Expedition I did, I managed to find the WHITE/ pink tach wire inside the car, in the thick harness coming through the firewall..... I see for 2001 they're listing different colors, but it can never hurt to check there.

Also, the BLACK/ green second accessory is for the radio---you don't need it.
