I finally got all of my sound stuff and I'm ready to install it. Before I do so, I want to make sure the power demand will not have a negative effect on my car. I am installing it into a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire SE.

Here is my basic wiring diagram:

Capacitor: Audiobahn ACAP7P 1 Farad.

Amp 1:

JBL PX300.4

169W x 4 @ 2ohms

Speakers: JBL GTO 607C, JBL GTO927(all 2 ohms)

Amp 2:

Sony XM-280GTX

480W Mono @ 4 ohms

Subwoofer: Pioneer TS-W256C (4 ohms).

I have a feeling you should be fine. Your going to have to try it out and watch the voltage while driving and at stop lights.

I dont have a voltage gage on my dashboard...what would be the best way to keep an eye on it in this case?

Well at night, sit at idle and put your headlights on. If your lights dim, then you know you are drawing more than what your car can handle. Another thing that would help tell how much your voltage change would be a volt meter. Very simple to install also.

If your lights dim and stay dim than you have a voltage problem...if your lights dim for a second then brighten back than you should be fine

You can get a cheap volt meter for like 20 bucks

i used to have a volt meter that plugged into the cigarette lighter (from whistler?) i think i got it at walmart. it had a digital readout, and three leds. think i paid $10-20 for it. i kept it in my tools- my friends would borrow it whenever they put in a new amp, etc.

I always thought that if your headlights dim at all, it is a big problem. It shows that the altnernator cant supply enough power to everything once your system hits a heavy bass note. This is very hard on an alternator and in time will ruin it.
