radio noise

I had a amp installed just recently at a local car audio shop. I got it home to listen to it and I could hear engine noise when i turned the volume all the way down. I used the same amp in another car and there was no noise like this. What is causing this in this car? Could it be because they have the rca's close to the power or ground wire running up to the amp? Could it be the ground is not very good? Need some help with this.05pontiac

The items you listed COULD be options, or your battery might be getting old, or your alternator could be (getting) ready to go... Does it get louder if you turn on another accessory, like headlights? Are there any ticks, cliks, or other noises when you step on the brake, or use your turn signal? MANY things, but what have you done to troubleshoot this issue? We cant go through all of the possibilities here.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

It doesn't get louder when I turn the headlights on.  There are no other noises when I step on the brake or use the turning signal.  The whining or hissing noise gets louder when I rev the car up. The higher the rpms the louder the noise. What is the most likely cause of this? They have the power wire ran on the opposite side of the car as the rca jacks. But when the wires come up to the amp they have the power, ground speaker wire and rca all tied together for a short length close to the amp. I haven't tried to mess with anything yet to get rid of the noise. I figured I would wait and see what someone told me to try.05pontiac

Sounds like you have a ground loop take it back and have them fix it's not all that hard to fix but if a shop did it I would have them take care of it they should of tested it and found the problem from the start and corrected before you picked up your vehicle. That is kinda poor work in my opinion.

It sounds like an alternator whine.  I had the same thing.  When the RCA's and the power are ran near each other, they give off different waves and frequencies and causes the alternator to whine through the speakers.  I had this problem.  Turn the radio up louder, it "goes away."Sony CDX-GT20W Head Unit

Probably not a Pioneer. He said if he turned the volume all the way down he heard noise. You know if it was a Pioneer he could hear that without turning the volume down.

sometimes its a grounding problem, or even a bad set of rca's  i just did an instal in a sunfire got the whining sound.  changed the ground for each amp still had the noise.. then i ran another set of rca's over the seats and poof   gone.  so its possible to have brand new rcas that have noise.   maybe try that and see what happensLenny Jenkins
