wiring subs solo baric 12 l5's

I am wiring up two 12" L5's to a 1000 W alpine mono amp the speakers are 4ohms. Can you change the ohms on a speaker ie. 4-2 ohms? dose 2ohms hit harder than 4?  Or do I just leave the speakers as they are?   

if your subs are 4 ohm you should be able to wire them up for a 1ohm load and me personally the 2ohm hit the same as the 4 ohm subs but is your amp 1 ohm stable?If I'm to loud, then you're too old!!!

If the amp is a stereo amp then you should Para. the subs and hook them up stereo to the amp. Not bridged. That's my advice. The amp may not handle 1ohm.David Fancher

your best bet would be to hook up just one sub or see if you can exchange them for dual 2ohm subs.  You can wire up your subs to create either a 4 ohm or a 1 ohm load.  At 4 ohms each sub would get only 250 rms each (roughly half of what they ought to have).   And 1 ohm isn't really an option because that amp isn't 1 ohm stable (alpine amps are worse than most amps when it comes to this--a buddy of mine had a v12 alpine amp that shut off as soon as it detected a 1 ohm load).
