I'm buildling a subwoofer enclosure that is going to be made of 1" MDF on all sides but 2. These 2 sides i'd like to use a clear 1" thick plastic/plexiglass/lexan. What is the best to use? I already ordered Acrylic but now i'm second guessing if this is strong enough to handle years of abuse from a powerful subwoofer (i'm going to use a MTX 9500-12"). The sub is rated at 1000W RMS, and i'm building a 1.75 cubic foot sealed enclosure.

What is the difference between Lexan and Acrylic? Which is better for an enclosure? Will Acrylic work?

Lexan is a stronger material. However, if you are using 1" thick acrylic it will be PLENTY strong enough. I generally use 3/4" MDF with 3/4" acrylic and have never had any problems with it. I usually wont do plexi windows with anything other than 3/4".

Thanks for the response. Are your enclosures usually sealed? How many watts are your subs usually. Your answer is making me much less nervous than I was a while ago, but i'm just curious if you have used a 1000watt RMS subwoofer in a sealed plexi enclosure. Thanks!
