I currently have a Viper 160 remote starter in my 2002 Grand Am GT1 that was put in by best buy. At the time I did not have alot of money to put into this and really just wanted a basic remote start but as time goes on and prices drop, i find myself wanting a more feature rich setup.
My question is can I buy one of the higher end viper remote starts with the LCD paging and just unhook the brain of my viper 160 and connect the new brain and it work? This would be something I can do that myself instead of spending money to get that kit installed? Why get it (re)installed if the wires are already there.
In theory it sounds like this would work but I am not sure if there are more wires necessary to install.
Has anyone ever tried this? Any ideas of how this could work?

ebay or a google search may find it- you need a responder antenna and antenna cable and a 479 series lcd responder remote.

look at

or buy a viper 5500- one mile range with sst technology

swap the brain antenna cable, antenna and remote. then resell your old remotes and module and make some money back on ebay if you wanted to.

plug in the antenna and program the remote to the remote starter module (very easy to do) and thats it. 5 minutes of work.

i have asked that autotech.com tech support to double check if that kit would work with a viper 160 and they said it was not compatible.
Any alternate ideas?? thanks
