i was given a Volfenhag ZX-4712 amp for my birthday,  last month, and am now finally getting  ready to install it, (more like have a friend install it )   i want to start looking for a mono amp to power  it  but i dont have a clue as to what to look for as far as the amp goes, what kind of power/ rating should i be looking at?

You want something that is either 2 ohm mono stable, or 4 ohm stereo. 500W RMS/1000W max. So, either a 4 Ohm 2 channel with around 250 RMS PER CHANNEL, or a 2 Ohm MONO amp.

yes sir. Volfenhag amps are junk, so stay away. I had one that was supposedly 300W RMS and it clipped like crazy no matter what I did...
