ClarionProAudioAPA2104. I was running it 2ohm stereo for about 6months. Anyway, one day it stopped working, correctly. It'll play until over 1/3 volume, then it cuts out and distorts like it's not getting 12v. I tried using the volume knob on the stereo(gain down) -nothing. Tried turning the gain all the way up(volume down) -Still, cuts out and distorts. This happend at the beginning of May, so I figured the hot weather and 2ohm stereo have done their part on it. Is it gone, even though it plays at low volumes?

Yes, sounds like the amplifier needs repair.  Note that the gain control is NOT a volume knob and should not be used as such.

Before you write the amp off it would be a good idea to do a little troubleshooting.  Do you own or have access to a volt meter?   If you do, with the amp playing above the 1/3 volume level you need to check voltage across the power and ground terminal of the amp.  If it is reading 12 volts or above, then you may have a bad amp.  If it is lower than 12 volts then a little more troubleshooting is in order.  Let us know what you find out.

Thanks. Well I turned the gain up with the volume almost all the way down, just to see if anything different happend.

What kind of repair does it sound like? Am I better off getting something new(er) for the price i'd pay to repair it?

It's getting 12 plus volts. Wiring is better than what it needed to begin with.

Have you checked to see if the ohm load has changed?

The problem occured with the original 2ohm stereo load. When I was messing with it I had it bumped up to 4ohms stereo and it still persists, is this what you mean?

Yes that is it. Looks like it is repair time.
