I have a portable GPS nav unit that can be hardwired instead of using a cigarette lighter. For power, it has three wires, Ground, Permanent 12V+, and Switch 12V+. I'm planning on tapping into the three wires of the stock radio for power.

Hypothatically, if I did not want to go that route, and just wanted to tap into the cigarette lighter which has only Ground an Switch 12V+. How do I go about this?

Thanks in advance.

You could tie together on your GPS, the constant and switched?

If you do as KarTune suggested, then your GPS will not turn itself off. You would ned to pull a fuse or cut a wire. I would run the grounbd to a good clean ground, then use the ignition harness. Or, use your radios constant 12v and Remote turn on. I have blown fuses and had things just not turn on when tapped into the switched 12v on a head unit. You could also use your HU's switched 12v to power a relay, which would then activate the GPS. Easiest would probably be #2
