Are gel batteries and kinetic batteries affected by cold weather like canadian winter?

They shouldn't be affected anymore than any other type of battery... The manufacturer's website should be able to tell you anything you need to know regarding temperature extremes for those batteries.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
