automotive pc

Anyone have any suggestions for an automotive pc setup, and high end audio card good for a car stereo.  I know i'm probably going to use a mini itx board because it's small but still powerfull, and also energy efficient.  I'd like to use pentium-m or core duo.  Planning on running vista home premium.  I wanted to use a voom pc 2 but cannot add pci card to it and i can't find a usb audio device with 3 outputs, front/rear/sub.  Plan to power 3 amps, touchscreen, and crossover.  Need: 3 audio outputs (2 volts or more), 6 usb ports, slimline cd/dvd, and 2 video outputs(2 vga/1vga +1 s-video or component or dvi). I would appreciate any suggestions.

Your best bet is to check out https://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin. The boards are pretty much the ultimate resource on the web for building such a system. I'm using a (now discontinued, but available on ebay) Sound Blaster Audigy NX USB sound card, which has exactly 2v outputs, and can be put RIGHT next to your amp(s) for short RCA runs. Would require a PCI sound card with sufficient outputs. One day, I may go this route instead of my USB card.

From what i saw, I liked the audigy NX, but it's no longer available any idea why?  I also saw the audigy 2 zs video editor which is quite a bit more than i'd like seeing as i don't need a video editor in my car, but it does seem to to be as good as, if not better than the nx, plus it has a 4 port usb hub which is useful.  Any experience with this unit?

No clue why they stopped making the NX, probably just became out dated. Haven't looked at the ZS video editor, it looks interesting. Honestly, if you want to go any higher end than one of these USB sound blaster cards, you're best bet is to find a 6+ channel card that supports ASIO, then you can do all your processing (time delay, crossovers, eq, etc) on the computer, and send it straight out to your amp. :-)
