I am looking for wiring diagram for a 2002 toyota highlander.  The info I need is how to hook up a remote starter to the lock/unlock wires and where/what color the wires are.

Notes:

NOTE: Some models have an immobilizer system that needs to be bypassed during remote start.    *1 The BECU (Body ECU) is behind the glove box, it is the module to the right.  *2 To avoid the dome light delay, go to the Body ECU behind the glove box to get the individual door trigger wires. In the 19 pin plug, the driver door is RED / blue in pin 11 and the rear hatch is WHITE/ red in pin 6. In the 17 pin plug, the front passenger door is RED / blue in pin 16 and the 2 rear door is red in pin 15. Use all wires and diode isolate each.  *3 This is the key sense wire for the ignition switch. The wire changes colors after a junction plug. It is red on the ignition switch side and blue on the other side. Using the status output wire from the remote start to ground this wire will disarm the alarm without unlocking the doors.  *4 The ECM (Engine Control Module) is behind the glove box, it is the module to the left.  *5 The amplifier is under the rear load floor.

Thank you very much for your prompt response, your info looks good.  however, it raises another question, how do I see direct fax #1070?  Or any other fax document for that matter, because I'm sure that I will find others that are very useful.

Hey Chris L............ do you have any short cuts on the Highlanders on the door locks ? Will it be better to go to the ECU and grab the motor wires ? What do you think ?

Locks in this car can be easy or hard, depending on how you want to do it. Do you have a factory alarm? Do you care about two-step unlocking, or will unlocking all the doors at once be okay for you?
Here is the simplest way; let me know if you need those other options.
Go to the passenger's kick panel, and find these three wires:
Power Lock, pink: Shows a ground when you push the lock SWITCH on the door panel.
Unlock Detection, a.k.a. "child safety", gray: It's a ground whenever the passenger door is unlocked; and it's dead if the door is locked.
Power Unlock, light green: It shows a ground when you insert the KEY into the passenger's door LOCK CYLINDER and twist it to the unlock position.
Now that you've found and tested the three wires, here's how to do the locks:
LOCK: Sending a negative pulse straight to the pink lock wire will lock all the doors.
If you have a factory alarm and you want to arm it, you MUST pulse this wire while a door is open---if the wire is pulsed while the door is closed, the alarm will not arm. (If you want to arm the alarm even with doors closed, let me know.)
UNLOCK: Take the negative unlock output from your remote starter; split it two ways with a pair of diodes. Send one diode to the light green unlock wire; send the other diode to the gray unlock detection wire. If both wires see a ground pulse at the same time, the doors will unlock. This will also disarm the factory alarm, if you have one.
If you want to do driver's-priority unlocking, you'd make the same type of connections using the two diodes, except the wires are only available inside the driver's door, and the colors are going to be different.
