I have 2 MTX 8000 subs and I need to know the best kind of box to put those subs into. I want a BASS kicking effect and hitting hard.
It is model T8104A located in this website:

According to the web page, you would be best with a 1 cubic foot ported box and a 3" dia x 14" long round port

If you want a "BASS kicking effect and hitting hard" Then I would defiantly go with a sealed enclosure. Do not go vented. For the sealed enclosure you should go with a volume of 1.0FT^3

Both of you recommend 1 x 1 x 1 but one recommends ported and one recommends sealed. What's the difference as to the effect? Any experience with those subs? People say that if it's configured correctly, it can be heard miles away and I have them connected with a big Fosgate amp but it doesn't quite kick as hard as I thought it would. My old Sony amp kicked just as hard but I must admit that this Fosgate turns up other types of bass that was unheard of before when connected to the Sony.

If you want Sound quality and accuracy go sealed, but if you like thump then go for ported, and if you like loud the loudest is bandpass. But from my experience if you want a loud bass kicking effect sealed sounds very good.

yup, a ported box will give you more bass than a sealed, but a ported box needs to be tuned correctly.  A sealed box will also give you tighter bass than a sealed box.

Ported- Mid Range Price difficult to build
Sealed-Cheapest & Easiest to bulid
Bandpass-Most expensive, you must use 3/4" plexi which is not cheap a sheet will run $300-500, thats just for the plexi; the point it all depends on what you want, for SQ go for the sealed if you want SPL go for the ported or bandpass

bandpass boxes don't require plexiglass--just happens that most of them are made that way.  Anyways,  I have heard those subs in both sealed and ported/vented boxes and can tell you that the sealed ones definitely pound--at least enough for my tastes.  It does vary upon your vehicle size/type/model, but with those subs I'd have to agree with bberman1 and recommend a sealed box, if not for sound quality, just for simplicity sake (not to mention they're usually cheaper than ported or bandpass boxes).

Bandpass boxes do not require plexiglass it is only for looks. They cost more than sealed boxes but will achieve a louder sound not clearer. It is possible to build a bandpass box if that is the way you want to go and it won't be that difficult. here is a link to a site that sell plans for the death Box and the Death Box itself. I like this box because it is built in a way that you can tune it to your speaker.
