Just wondering. I got this sub and the fella at the shop said it was good for like 180dbs, so I said, yeah but I wanna set some sort of record, so let's do a good box and stuff and shoot for 181dbs. Well, my car blew up, but the next guy to buy the sub was a bit luckier, prolly cuz he drives a Volvo.

On August 31st the bar was set just a bit higher in dB Drag competition. Alan Dante set the new record at 180.5dB with a single subwoofer. Let me say that again... WITH A SINGLE SUBWOOFER.

Wow. Alan Dante's concrete filled Volvo is louder than dynamite, jet engines, gunfire, NASA rockets and pretty much any sound you can imagine for that matter.

The 180.5 score was done with a Digital Designs 9918Z subwoofer receiving 26,000 watts of power from four Stetsom 7KD amplifiers. Fifteen Powermaster 16 volt batteries were used as well. Rumor has it that the setup is good for at least another decibel, so expect to possibly see an even higher number in the near future

Where was that record set? Was it a sanctioned event?

It doesn't appear to have been a sanctioned event, but details are minimal from the article I posted. It was done with an 18" sub, I think. Don't quote me on that.  He'll be around the show circuit if that car is not in pieces by now. A concrete filled Volvo, is there any more appropriate combo? haha.

I read the termpro forum write up on it. It was done at a 2x event so no official record yet. He's going to Finals and we'll see what's up. He supposedly only used 26,000 W for the blast to 180.5db.  The woofer will handle 40,000 W (peak) for a burp and he plans to do that. You are limited to four amps per woofer in that division (so i heard) so the Stetsom amps will have to be something special to do that kind of power. He's on a 16V system, of course.

I smell smoke!
40,000W divided by 14V= 2857 amps. anybody know of a vehicle or amp that can supply this?
Every doubling of SPL requires 4 times the excursion. A robust 12 will produce high 130s. Do the math. How many feet is the Xmax on this sub?
Someone sold you snake oil.
