2008 vw jetta se interface problem

My local installer was tasked with installing an aftermarket alarm into my new Jetta SE. After about two days of scratching their heads, calling around and talking to the manufacturer, they're still unable to get a system working. I've spent a lot of time searching for information, but only since I've come across 12v have I learned about bypass and CAN kits. I was a DIY'r back in the day, but none of this new stuff. I've been told the problem stems from the interface to the lock-unlock mechanism -- and the lack of a compatible module to do this. They're working with DEI to resolve what they believe to be a MY2008 issue. Does anyone have any input or examples of working systems? What it would/should or could take to get it working? They've really bent over backwards to figure it out, so I don't imagine they're faking it. Any ideas? I have cross-posted this with a vdub site for some more feedback, but it seems there's more technical advice here, so hopefully I can get some feedback.

Its a 2008 German vehicle so I would definetely not do such a task if I was a DIY'er.  Now, if I were you I would contact Fortin and or other bypass companies (not DEI) and see if their CAN models work on your car.  The CANSL2 works on the 2007 vehicles therefore I would defintely ask Fortin in reference to your 2008 vehicle.  If your key has the same style thats been around for VW then it might not be too much of a problem but if its the key thats used on Tauregs then i would beware since for these cars it may be a pain to install such a system since you actually have to install a different key cylinder!!!!! In theory Trilogix / DEI CAN 1 should solve this problem BUT we removed a digital TV tuner recently from a  2 year old VW Taureg to discover that the CAN interface won't work with an '08model Audi A5 and this is the same manufacturer! Be VERY VERY careful what you cut into or join to.

Are you adding an alarm to the factory remote controls, or installing a whole, separate, alarm/keyless with its own remotes? If you want to have the aftermarket alarm lock the doors with its own remotes, the CAN-SL2i from www.ifar.ca worked for me when I did a 2007 Jetta; don't know about the 2008. Or, if you're trying to use the factory remotes to arm and disarm the factory alarm, the wires that go to the doorlock actuator motors would be used.........on that car, you'll have to run wires into the door which is a pain, but it should work. Which type of alarm is it they're trying to install?

Chris, Given the size of the VW key, I'd be looking to use the factory fob to arm/disarm the aftermarket alarm. The iDataLink looks good, except the required key. It seems like you're bypassing an important security feature that is built in. So say I was going factory fobs, could you still use a CAN product like the Trilogix or the SL2i?

The iDatalink bypass module is used for both imobilizer bypass and for door lock interface. If you don't use the immobilizer bypass, then it won't activate but you can still use the interface part of the module.Jeff

Okay, just for clarity, the immobilizer bypass is simply used for remote start? Meaning if I'm only adding an alarm, I can use the iDatalink, an alarm and the factory key to lock & unlock? I started asking around some of the local shops and it seems I haven't picked any good ones. Nobody seems to know much about this stuff.

You don't need your keys to lock/unlock the car DEI's CAN 1 should do it, will give you lock unlock window close factory arm and disarm etc, plugs straight into Viper alarms
