I have a 1992 Chevy S10 pickup, and for hobby reasons, I need a 12 volt battery to charge my R/C helicopters at the flying field. Is it possible to install a second battery in the bed of the truck and have it charged by the alternator? What would be involved in such a project? Thanks!

What you are describing is what's done with hundreds of thousands (or millions) of RVs and campers.. if you're planning for this to be a permanent install, use an isolater to keep from draining the engine start battery.

Go to www.surepower.com and you can see several of the isolator solutions they offer. HTH.

Look at POWER-GATE isolators.  A guy in my club uses it.....much smaller and much more efficient than surpower.
