Im doing custom headlights for a1982 chevy cavalier. I was thinking of using plexiglass for the lens cover. Will that work? And also would anyone recommend plexiglass for a subwoofer enclosure?

Plexiglass is good but if your wanting to go into high SPL then I recommend lexan instead. WAY more expensive but it's also bullet proof... literally !

Plexiglass will work for the headlights but it just scratches so damn easily. Something to watch out for when used for exteriors.

use 1/8" MR-10 Lexan, best thing to use, trust me, I do custom headlights. You might also want to use a UV spray or UV tint on it so it won't yellow faster than OE headlights.
