I just put a remote starter in a 98 Caravan and ow the engine light is on and the owner says he smells gas sometimes. I pulled the code and it was the EGR valve assembly was pulled. I don't see how this would have to do with the remote starter installation. The only wiring dispute I see in the different diagrams I have is that a BLACK/ White wire is listed as Ignition 2. 2 of the 4 diagrams I was looking at did not even show BLACK/ White as required and on top of that it tests like an accessory, so i didn't hook it up at all.
Any ideas? I have done several 98 Caravans in the past and I have never had any problems (of course I don't remember how I connected the wires on those since it was a few years ago.)
Thanks

BLACK/ white is accessory 2, not required for remote start.
there's only 1ign and one acc required.

Unless you cut an EGR wire when you were tapping the Coil wire - I really doubt you caused the issue.

OK so I cleared the codes and told the owner not to use the remote starter for a few days. He told me he did not use the remote and then the day he started using it again the check engine light came on again and he says he smells gas when he is driving.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't even know where to look since I am almost certain I installed everything correctly.

I think you are missing 1 wire, dk.grn/red on a separate plug (black) beside the main plug (white) at ignition harness needs to be hooked up as ign2.

TACH SIGNAL Gray At coil pack on engine   AC
The 3.3L and 3.8L engines use a multi-coil pack which provides a 2 cylinder output on the GRAY or GRAY/BLACK wire. The 3L engine uses a single coil at the back of the motor which provides a 6 cylinder signal on the GRAY/RED.

From my knowledge, the standard EGR valve is NOT related to fuel. On the other hand, charcoal canister is what relating to your problem, but I still do NOT see how its related to your RS install.
Whats the code?

I am going to pull the code again, but I think it was a P401. I do have the GREEN/ Red wire as a 2nd Ignition.
I am at a loss for ideas. The didn't come back on until he started using the remote starter again, so I would think I need to do something.
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks

Try power up ign2 1 sec before ign1. Some people will say it doesn't matter but look at the following diagram. You had a very weird situation, every avenue needs to be explored, don't you agree ?

Thanks mooonliter, that is the next thing I will try. This whole situation stinks, so i am willing to try anyting right now. Of course, the worst part about this is that after i clear the code, it takes a little while before it is triggered again. Then it stays on until it is cleared, it won't go away on its own.
Thanks again.
