just hooked up a cd player in my 96 Grand Am, it plays but no sound, no static no nothing. I checked the  wire run to the speaker but everything seem fine. Any suggestions on what i should do to get it workin.

You may first try disconnecting all speakers in case there is a short in one of them or in the wiring, then connecting a speaker directly on wires in the back of the radio to check if you get sound. I think this would be the first step to know if the radio is the cause, or if your wiring is incorrect.

use a multimeter and check each speaker lead for continuity to ground. if there are no grounded speakers then check and make sure that if its an amplified system you have the remote turn on wire hooked up. if your still lost do what was mentioned above with disconnecting the speaker leads and hook another speaker up right behind the radio.
