Hey guys got sent over here from caraudioforum.com. Got a weird problem here.

05 dodge ram rc

pioneer 5900ib
memphis 6.5 components
memphis 100x2
memmphis 1200 x1
2 10" alpine r's
Everything is great while listenening to a cd. But, going to FM at anthing other than low volume the mids and highs crackle. Sound almost like a bad antenna but it is fine and all connections are fine. No power antenna option to tap into so its not the antenna not getting power. This only happens on fm. Turning the subs off however, will keep it from distorting in fm. Subs taking too much power maybe? This didn't happen before adding components/component amp.
any ideas?
Thx

Take the fuse out of your subwoofer amplifier.   If you have any speakers connected directly to the radio, take the fuse out of both of your amplifiers.   It could be the power supply of one of your amps could be generating RFI  Radio Frequency Interference.

I suspect the HU. Yet another reason to not buy Pioneer heads. The fact that it is happening ONLY on radio tells me that it could be a tuner issue. You saying that it only happens at higher volumes simply tells me that it's a relatively low-level noise, coming into the radio section.
Replace the head with something else, just for diagnostic purposes, and this will tell you exactly whether the issue is in the radio or not...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Make a jumper wire from the outter casing of the antenna cable to the cassis of the deck (like you would with rca's). see if this cures the problem. I have had ground loops from the antenna before.

Does changing the blower motor, headlights on/off, engine on/off make an diff?

Also, when you put in the comp. amp, did you wire directly to the spk, or tap the fatory wires behind the dash?

used to be loud, used to be fast...now I am married LOL

Cannot tell a difference with any other electrical devices doing their thing.

I tapped into the factory wires behind the dash.

Thanks.

I had this problem for awhile. Through HU's internal amp, external amp, sub amp, everything. Only with tuner.

After upgrading all HU grounds, the noise is gone.

So instead of putting the ground on your head unit to the factory harness did you take it somewhere else?

I think I left the factory ground there and added a HU case to chassis ground. The noise still may have been there at the time, I did eventually removed the factory harness ground. It's fine now.

Use good connections and wire of sufficient size (or larger).

Okay, grounded the head unit chassis to a support bar behind the dash, grounded outside casing of antenna wire, and reran the radio ground to the support bar and noise is still there. If I cut the sub off from the cd player the noise mostly stops,  but its only cutting the output from rca jacks to the sub amp, the sub amp is still on, just not making any sound. Grounding problem with the rcas?
