I have a green 7 segment LED I need to mount in a friends car.  We chose to mount it behind a small trim piece in the upper dash.  I have already cut the hole and sanded it down nice and pretty and I'm currently working on making the display look nice.

My goal is to make it 'float' behind the panel, so that it doesn't look like a 7 segment display.  I've tried various tints and colored transparent vinyl pieces but I'm still seeing too much light through the film/tint.  Does anyone have any ideas on this?  The only other thing I can think of is tint it super dark and change to a super bright LED display.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Kevin Pierson

if you're just looking for even light output, try frosting a piece of plexiglass.. just take a chunk of plexi and hit with a sander till it's all frosted up
Lots of diamond audio and clifford junk :P

go buy some dark tinted plexi/lexan (off of eBay) and make sure there is no light coming in from around it. They make some very dark stuff that you can barely see through. You can also get translucent stuff that is frosted and if you play with the distance from the LEDs to the plexi, you can probably blur all the segments together.
