I am going to put an auto start in my 04 Rumble Bee, which is just a Ram 1500 with the Hemi. The ignition key is black, so I am thinking that it is not a sentry key. Although, my buddy that works for a Dodge dealer ran my vin and he says that the vin comes back showing a programmable key. I thought that the sentry key was always grey, am I right?

The key does not have the lock or unlock buttons on it.

Look for an indicator in the gauge cluster to determine if the vehicle is equipped with a transponder key. If you have a black ignition key I highly doubt it has a sentry key.

i'm with the "it's a black key so no crowd" but if you want to test it then go to walmart and spend $1 getting another key cut and see if it'll start the truck

Without a remote built into the key, and a black head, NO transponder.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Not all of Chrysler's keys with built in keyless have the transponders in them. The way to tell is pop open the key. If it has it there will be a rectangular chip inside near the metal part of the key. Some don't have this.

As for this vehicle. Black key = no chip
