horn & siren, DEI alarm??

Hello I have a Sidewinder (DEI) 5000 on a 2001 Cavalier. I am wondering if anyone knows if its possible to have my siren and horn sound when the alarm goes off and not have the horn honk when I arm or disarm the car? I know that I can connenct a relay to the + output of the siren and have my horn sound constantly. I would like for the horn to pulse and not have to herar it everytime I arm the car, but I would the like the siren to chirp as usual. Thanks in advance to any replies MECP Basic Installer

Well, it's pretty hard to wire the horn honk without arm or disarm. I reviewed the Sidewinder 5000 installation guide. BTW, you can tried it this way. The horn honk will goes off with the alarm system but the horn will not goes on constant and it will pulse the horn. You will need two relays to do the the job. DEI has positive Siren output and positive light output. You will have to change one to negative output. It doesn't matter which one you change. Here goes: First Relay, connect pin 87 and 86 to gound, pin 85 to Siren output (Brown wire), pin 30 has a Negative Siren output, and do not use pin 87a Second Relay, Pin 30 from (first relay) to pin 86, pin 87 to (12V positive or gound) depends on Horn trigger, pin 85 to Parking Light output (White wire), pin 30 will have (positive or negative) out to Horn, pin 87a do not use ** Most vehicle has negative horn ** Good luck

I have called DEI and they faxed me a diagram Titled horn honk w/o chirp on arm, and it has two relays. One relay uses the ground when armed output and the other uses the domelight supervision output. I am having a hard time figuring out how it would work and if it will cause my horn to honk in pulses. I will try to scan the document to see if anyone recognizes it and if anyone has tried it. Thanks for the reply. MECP Basic Installer

hey! I was able to do exactly what you're trying to do. I asked this question a while ago, and got it to work. I used one relay and one flasher to wire it up, and when the alarm goes off my horn honks and the siren wails, but when I unlock and lock the car, only the siren chirps and that's all. It's sweet. It's something along the lines of....when you arm/disarm the alarm, the pulse isn't long enough to trigger the horn. It's really great....very unique from surrounding car alarms. I'll see if I can find the link for the post that I had, or the diagram for how I hooked it up (I can't remember).

For mine, I only had to use 1 relay and a $2.00 flasher. I didn't use a second relay or diodes for that matter. Like I said, I'll see if I can find the post.

Found it....here was the post: click here Actually, the diagram on that post was from this site. It was for making the headlights blink, but you could substitute the horn for the headlight. Mine was slightly different from the diagram, though, because my horn needed a (-) pulse to activate, so I had to connect pin 87 to (-) instead of (+) as the diagram shows. So you might want to find out if your horn needs a negative or positive pulse. There's also another link in that post going to another post that you might want to read just for more background. come on people your making this harder than it has to be. take a relay as said before and set it up so it will get possitive from siren. take that and connect it to pin 86 of five pin relay. pin 85 goes to ground. pin 87a goes to constant 12 volts fused and 87a not used and pin 30 is the output. now take that output and connect it to either terminal of a normal 2 pin flasher. and take the second pin from flasher and connect it to the possitive in to horn on car. not the negative from the steering column. now the flasher takes time to energize so nine times out of ten you will not get the arm disarm honk from horn cause it is too quick. now not possitive but the arm honk you will never get., that is even quicker cause it is just one pulse instead of too for disarm. now when the alarm is going off will pulse the horn wire so it goes beep beep instead of just beep for thirty seconds.

whatever...it's the same thing. For me, it was easier to snag the horn wire under the dash than it was to wire it all the way up to the actual horn in the car. either way.

of couse but i dont recal doing negative through a flsher and it working unless the horn relay is under dash and easy access but i just said that for those who dont know,. Jon
