Check engine light is sometimes normal after install. It should go away after 10 or so times of starting and stopping vehicle with key with normal driving. This had happened to me when I installed into Chevy Blazer back in 97.
If that light doesn't go out within a week or so then it maybe something else. To be honest, I think it will be fine like what I stated above and all it needs is the computer to reset from the trouble code from when you changed from the oem resistance in the anti theft system to bypass it.
The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

Check to make sure that the WHITE 2nd IGN is powering up at the connection from the remote starter. If it's powered up as a 2nd ACC you will get this error from the vehicle. Don't drive too long otherwise this WILL cause damage to your transmission. Test to ensure that you have the proper WHITE wire at the ignition junction connector.

The check engine light will go out after factory computer resets as stated in my previous post. I have done plenty of chevy trucks and SUV's in the year range of 96 - 99.
