faint whine

Hi Guys;

I just finished installing a new stereo in my car.  The stock unit was built into the dash so I took the feed to an EQ and from there to the component and sub amps (three sets of RCA's out).  It had a fairly serious alternator whine in the first layout but I re-grounded the components and it has been reduced a lot.  Still, I would like to get it as quiet as possible so I have a couple questions to float.  The stock radio/CD changer and stock separate amp aren't grounded anywhere near the EQ or new amps.  I want to know if I put the ground nearer to the others if it would help reduce the potential in the loop?  Also, if the layout and parts are just going to make noise, should I consider getting a ground loop noise isolator for somewhere in the system?

Did you separate the signal ( rca, speaker wires) from the power? Do you get a noise with the car on or off?

Yes, everything is isolated.  I wrote a sticky on it for the Acura TSX forum

PS It only whines when the engine is on.  The stock amp is ignition switched so it makes the noise even when the head unit is off.
