Autocommand remote starter, is it toast?

I'm new to this so bare with me, the help would be greatly appreciated.  

I have a 91 Dodge Dakota (V6) which has an Autocommand remote starter model #20033 installed in it. The unit seems to be installed properly from what I can tell with my limited knowledge. When I use the remote starter it starts the truck just fine. The problem is the truck runs for about 15 seconds and then shuts off. Then it restarts again on its own, runs for about 25 seconds, then shuts off again. It restarts a third time, runs for about a minute and a half, then shuts off and stays off.

Is the unit fried or is there something set wrong that can be fixed? Or is something in the wiring likely causing this problem? The truck has no alarm, power door locks or power anything attached. 

The remote starter unit has this on it:

ON(down arrow) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

with very small switches below each number.

Are the numbers supposed to indicate the length of time the vehicle runs for? Adjusting the positions of the switches in combination doesn't seem to change the above problem. Am I doing this wrong or is that not what the switches on the unit are for?

Also if the unit is fried, should I be able to buy a new Autocommand unit and plug it in to the existing wiring, or will I have to take it all out and start from scratch?

Excuse my ignorance on this. I am not an installer, just a guy with limited knowledge trying to figure this out on my own before I spend money on a new remote starter that I may not need. I greatly appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Good luck and let us know if you have any more problems with this after you do some tweeking with the dip pin switches.
