I had a remote starter put in my car by a local installer and have had nothing but trouble with it. Sometimes when you use the remote to start the car it trips the factory security system and the car has to sit for 10 minutes to reset the system. This is a real pain in the dead of winter when you are stuck sitting in a freezing car. The reason for the remote starter was to be able to have a warm car to get into. He replaced one of the modules once that is supposed to bypass the security system and that seemed to fix the problem for awhile but it has since gone back to its old ways. Each time you use the remote starter it is a gamble. I am pretty sure it is a Viper unit as that is mostly what he sells. Any advice?

your car has passlock 2 immobalizer system contact your dealer and make sure he used either a 555u or a 555l from dei this ia an add on module that learnes the r code from the car and than replicates it apon remote start this has to be connected right you can check wiring . in your car this little box should be connected a a 12 volt pos a neg and a blue status wire from remote start. after than three wires will come out of the box these three wires should be blue WHITE/ blue and white. the blue should be connected to one side of the yellow tiny yellow wire. and the blue white should be connected to the other side of tiny yellow wire. and white wire should be tapped in the black tiny wire,   the two passlock wires are small found at the ignition harness make sure this is the module used and it is connected properly and if it is the mod used than check the wires and make sure the white wire connected to black passlock wire is in a good position and it is contacting with the wire, REASON this is the wire tapped on to it the wire may not have enough wire to atach to 1 and may not have be taped up right.  check it out the unit is either the 555u or the 555l.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

reach the passloc wiring

cut the yellow wire

turn ignition on and start once (dont start the engine!!!)

using an ohm meter read the resistance between black wire (black probe on black wire) and key side of yellow wire . note the value.

install an equivalent resistor across the black wire and the yellow wire engine side.

isolate properly forget the key side of yellow wire and enjoy!

it is best to use a module instead of just a resistor also never just cut and jump, cause if the resistor ever come loose or more often temp change cause it to go out of tolerance. if you dont use a module use a relay to keep the factory wires together except when remote starting. this way you never leave your customer stranded.

I agree with securinu. I highly recommend that you do not do as Montrealler says (no offence).  I am really not fond of the cheap, quick, easy permenant bypasses for many reasons.

The Passlock II bypass described by Montrealler is temperature sensitive and an aftermarket bypass module ( some ) have a learning bypass where it will take the temerature variations into consideration and canchange according to the temperature change. Buying one of these will be the difference between being stuck in the middle of a parking lot or driving off it.

Security Passloc... SAfe??

ok with your replies folks. But it's also possible to improve this cheap trick with the usage of a relay. The 2 negative inputs will be diode isolated; one is from the key sense (usually light green in Gm) and the other from the remote starter (ground when running) . Consider the fact that i am living in Montreal and we have considerable temperature variation in our climate.

Then for the security aspect remember that when you by pass any security device, for remote start, you tell every bad intentionned people to chose that car instead of an other without car starter.

If you want to stop come back that kill your effort in keeping your customer and waste precious time for installing, use the method describe above for your passloc installation

If you dont belive in it too bad but to try is a way to learn ...

As they said belive it or not Save Money!!!!

cityboy2 it sounds like you have a keyless remote start . sometimes you lock it with the keyless and sometimes you lock it with the factory switch. try just locking the car with the aftermarket unit and you should not have any more problems with the factory security system.
p.s. before locking make sure all doors are closed.
