Using it's own hole and grommet is often preferred, but go with which ever way is easier for you so long as you run it through a grommet and do not pinch or chafe any wires that you run or that already exist. In many cases you can find an unused grommet to use.

Also another trick to keep in mind is to run the power wire on the battery side of the car eliminating the need to transfer sides under the hood and keeping the length as short as possible.
