Hi, i have all three to do this week,  (family's christmas presants)  ive put quiet a few auto starts on older vehicles before the gm passlock or whatever its called, now my question is what do i need to do and how can i find out if the vehicle is equipped with the passloc,  also where can i find color codes of the vehicles in question?

Notes:*1 Also found low in the drivers kick panel. *2 The ECM is located behind the passenger side of the dash. *3 The power sliding door is operated (open and close) by a positive pulse on a dk. blue wire, at a module behind the glove box.

My notes do not tel me if the vehicle has VATS or not. It is simple to tell though. Check the shaft of the keys and if there is a chip on the end of the key ( closest to the head ) then you have VATS ). To bypass VATS go here: http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/install_notes/Chevy.htm and click on to VATS Bypass I & II.

The 1997 ( I do not think it was a Lumina, rather a Chevy Venture according to my notes.) Here is the wiring information regardless for the Venture. If this is not what you need, please post your request again:

The Venture did not come out with a chipped key until 1999 so you have nothing to worry about here.

| ITEM | WIRE COLOR |POL| WIRE LOCATION | | 12V|red or RED / white |+ |ignition harness | | STARTER|yellow |+ |ignition harness | | IGNITION|pink |+ |ignition harness | | SECOND IGNITION|white |+ |ignition harness | | ACCESSORY|orange |+ |ignition harness | | POWER LOCK|lt. blue |- |either kick panel or BCM *2 | | POWER UNLOCK|white |- |either kick panel or BCM *2 | | LOCK MOTOR|gray | |drivers kick panel or BCM *2| | UNLOCK MOTOR|tan | |drivers kick panel or BCM *2| | DISARM DEFEAT|tan | |pass. kick panel or BCM *2 | | PARKING LIGHTS +|brown | |light switch *3 | | HEADLIGHTS|yellow |+ |light switch | | DOOR TRIGGER|*4 |- |BCM | | TRUNK/HATCH PIN|see door trigger | | | |TRNK/HTCH RELEASE|lt. blue *5 |- |passenger kick panel | | FCTRY ALARM ARM|RED / black |- |either kick panel or BCM *2 | |FCTRY ALRM DISARM|ORANGE / black |- |either kick panel or BCM *2 | | TACHOMETER|pur/wht or white | |*1 | | BRAKE WIRE|white |+ |at switch | | HORN TRIGGER|black |- |steering column | | WIPERS|gray |+ |steering column | | LF WINDOW UP/DN|dk. blue - brown |A |LF window motor in door | | RF WINDOW UP/DN|lt. blue - tan |A |drivers door harness |

Notes:*1 Main harness on the drivers side of engine on top of the manifold cover. *2 The BCM is located above the passenger side kick panel. *3 Also located at the firewall connector. *4 There are three separate door trigger wires. They are: tan for the drivers door, dk. blue for the passenger door and liftgate, and orange for the sliding door(s). Use all 3 wires and diode isolate each. *5 To operate the sliding door, give a negative trigger to a lt. blue wire in a large black connector just below the BCM.

VATS is the first generation Passlock, yes. The VATS uses a resistor chip  but the Passlock uses a RF signal to send it's code to the anti theft system.

Different vehicles had different launch dates. The Grand Am's came out in 1996 while the Sunfire's came out in 1995. Other vehicles from GM have the VATS in as late as 1998/99 before switching over the the Passlock I or II systems.

If your key has a small chip embedded into the shaft then you have VATS on the car.

I understand that part, but from what i seen in an earlier post the vats and passloc are different?  maybe i just missunderstood, but if they are different then what does the passloc do, i thaught that there had to be a passloc bypass modual wired into the vehicle to use the autostart?
