I just bought a 2004 Chevy Aveo and want to add cruise control. I bought the Rostra unit made for the 2004 Aveo and had a Chevy mechanic install it. The unit will not set. The diagnostics indicate a problem with the handle/switch.

I tried a new handle/switch but the problem persists. Does anyone have a clue to where we might look to correct the problem and make the unit work? We have checked all the connections.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Is the handle a normally open, or normally closed? Check what the handle is (it should say on the box), and then double check your dipswitch settings. Also, VSS on that car is 8000 PPM, not 4000.

I would want to have a ROSTRA installer to check......
If you bought ROSTRA 250-1753 Cruise Control, I would find it hard to beleve there is a problem with Cruise.............There are 3 wires for ECU and 4 Wires for Handle & 2 wires for Light in Handle.
Check ECU Connections & make sure the BLACK wire in harness under hood is GROUNDED
I would bet that the Installer mis-wired............
Easy Cruise Install, but if mechanic is not familiar??????
Over 100 Aveo Installs & not 1 come back...........

Have to agree.... haven't ever seen a bad unit. Ever. But, If they used a normally closed handle, I believe dipswitch 12 comes out of the box set up for normally open.

The ROSTRA 250-1753 Cruise Control for Aveo comes with 250-3717 Handle and is already set up with dip switch set.   Unless someone didn't follow easy instructions............gotta be mis-wired or NO Ground.

Thanks for the responses, Solved the problem-it was a spade terminal that was not seated.

The unit works great
