has anyone had trouble with the resin soaking through the tape or the tape leaving a sticky residue behind after the fiberglass mold is removed? Do i just need more layers of tape? I used two layers criss-crossed as it was.

I used 2 layers of 2" carpenters masking tape in my car with car wax over it... and I didn't experience this...

Did you use a mold release agent on the tape ?

Not at all... All I did was use the masking tape and then the wax.....

yes, i did use some turtle wax. Maybe i didn't put it on thick enough? What do you think? The tape sure left one heck of a sticky residue on the vehicle panels.

beleive it or not. pam cooking spray also works

I use 3M masking tape for drywall and painting. This stuff peels off really well and doesn't leave residue when the heat from the fiberglass resin mixes with the hardener.
