I have a cabinet that I built about 10 years ago that to my ears sounds perfect. However it's huge, square, and ugly.. I'm duplicating the cabinets dimensions and making a fiberglass face for it. (shortening the depth of the cabinet by the amount of extra space created by the now non-flat face to keep the cab volume the same). My questions are with the ports. The basics of the cabinet are 2 15's each in it's own chamber. The chambers are 3.4 cf of space each and have two ports 4" x 10". Here are the questions.

1. Will the port length change now that with the fiberglass front, the ports are not even with the front of the driver? (wil be about halfway up)

2. How can I calculate the measurements to convert these ports to square ports rather than round? (once again asthetics related)

the port length will stay the same no matter where it is placed and how far it sticks out. it just a matter of the resistance in the port. or back pressure or something like that. but i am sure it won't change.
and with the conversion......all you have to do is get the area for the round port(s) and make the same opening, but square, or triangle, or star shaped. it doesn't matter the shape, as long as the area is the same. the length stays the same.
so if you have a 4" port the area of it is..3.14 x 2 x 2.....12.56.....so you can make the port any combination that equals this number (i.e....6.28 x 2) ya pickin up what i'm puttin down???
