trying to find out why the exterior lights on my 1990 Celica are always on when the engine is tunning even though the switch is off. my dash board cluster light is also on when the engine is running. if the engine is off, i can control the exterior lights with the switch but not when the engine is running.
need help? Thanks

Which exterior lights (parking lights only, low beams, high beams, etc.)? Have you unplugged the headlight switch? Did it make any difference?

not the low/high beam head lights. they work work normal. i was tracing the switch. i did not see a connector just for the exterior lights. The wire is tied in on the harness connectors with some other wires.

Yes, I realize it's a multifunction switch. When you unplug it, do your lights turn off? If so, try to locate a light green wire in the harness and see if you can trace that small loom back to the headlight switch. If so, look for a spot to cut this wire. Plug your harness back in. Do the lights stay off? If this works you can put a hidden toggle switch on this wire so you can control them.
