I have a 1979 F150 and the tail lights pretty much suck. You cant put in a bigger bulb b/c it will melt the housing.

Browsing one of my truck forums i came arcross this idea-

using oval trailer leds -- posted image.

Cutting my housing up to fit them trailer LEDs like this-

the only problem with using the backup lights is that they are only on/off, no tail.

i seen this diagram made by somebody who was making his own led board-

so my question is can i add diodes and an extra resistor for a dim tail light? If i can what do i have to buy and where can i find them? And i want to attch this to the normal power on the trailer LED, so i dont have to open it up.

Any car stereo shop should have diodes and resistors by the bucket full. Some may give you them for free but if not keep in mind they cost less then a penny each so don't get ripped off. Maybe offer an installer a few bucks for a handfull.

Let us know how it turns out..seems like a pretty cool idea. You will need to experiment with resistor values to find the right brigtness for the tails, the brakes of course will be full brightness.

Where did you find the diagram? I have tried the same thing but can't seem to get iy to work. Tried resistors to dim the lights but it doesn't seem to work.
