gm12aux into 2000 sunfire

So I bought a GM12-aux (made by P.I.E.) for my girlfriend's 2000 Pontiac Sunfire with a factory stereo. If you are unfamiliar with it, it's an adapter that plugs into the CD Changer / XM input on the back of a factory stereo and converts it into a standard RCA input. That way you can plug anything into it. Anyway, the GM12-aux comes with a black ground wire and a yellow 12v wire. I pulled her stereo out and cut the orange 12v constant and the black ground wire (or so I think?) from the back of the stereo. I twisted in the GM12aux wires and put it all back in. I plugged back in the negative battery wire and put the key back in. The stereo was acting funny. The CD player kept saying calibrating. The buttons would work and then not and then work, but work with another function. The stereo kept going out every minute or two. I pulled everything back out and took the GM12aux wires and put it back together. Everything worked on the stereo again after that. So anyway... Did I do something wrong with pulling the power from the stereo 12v constant and ground wires? Was the stereo kind of freaking out from not receiving enough power or something? I used a standard wire threading connector (the ones you twist on) from my house that's rated for a max of 500v, and then wrapped some electric tape around it to protect from any moisture.

When I say that the stereo kept going out every minute or two, I mean that it acted like the power went away. The clock would reset back to 12:00 each time.

Anyone?

You may want to look at the application chart again. The factory radio for a 2000 Sunfire doesn't have any way to connect to an auxillary source, factory or not. The unit you have is only for certain 2002 and newer radios. Don't try hooking it up again or you could permanently damage the radio. Your only way to add an additional audio source is to use a FM modulator. The orange and black wires are power and ground in the radio harness, but your unit could be drawing too much current or you have damaged the wires too much when you tapped into them.sparky
