I just reciently purchased a Clarion DPX11551 amp... to go in my 2000 Grand am... It was working fine for the past month... until last night. When I turn on the car... my amp goes into protect mode... but its a different protect mode then my old clarion amp... Here's what the clarion manual says (3 blinks then pause... Repeated shorts detected; romove the short circuit, wait 5 min for error condition to clear; or clear condition by removing the main power.) I did both... and it will goes into the protect mode after 1-2 minutes of waiting... Any help

Disconnect the speakers. Turn on the amp. If it goes into protection the amp is fried. If not, you have a problem with your wiring. What is the speaker loading on the amp?

ok... I have a kenwood 1200 watt sub hooked up to it... and then a 300 want amp that is bridged on to the calrion amp

which the other amp is powering a small pair of 6x9 alpine speakers

ok.... so I tried what you said to do... it didn't go into protect mode when i didn't have the sub plugged in... When i plugged in one half of the sub... it still didn't go into protect... but when i plugged in the other half of the sub.. it jumps into protect mode... if its that easy as re-wiring... do i just need a new sub wire??

You said when you hooked up the other half of the sub it went into protect. Try connecting only the half of the sub that made it go into protect. If it plays that coil alone and does not go into protect until you connect the other coil, your amp or your install is the problem. If that coil alone makes the amp go into protect, your woofer is most likely your problem. It sounds to me like you have a damaged voice coil.
