’01 protege stereo no sound

I have a 2001 mazda protege. a few weeks ago i was getting hissing and popping (in all modes am fm and cd) through the speakers. i removed the stock head unit and looked for loose/ damaged connectors ect. i found none so i put it all back together and then there was no sound at all. I decided that it needed a new head unit anyways (the lcd display was on the blink) I ordered another stock head unit and installed it. the display and all the lighting works just fin, but i still have no audio. I have confirmed that the ground, memory, and 12v constant, wiring is all good. there are two more wires (other than the speaker outputs) that i have no clue to what their purpose is. when the unit is turned on and the volume is at about mid level all of the speaker outputs have about 6 volts running through them. I am not sure what to do next. any input would be greatly appreciated. my wife is going to strangle me soon if i do not get this figured out so time is of the essence lol.thanks for the help, and remember people are mustards... mustard covered mustards with mustard filling

There should be about 6 volts of DC voltage on every speaker wire (when referrenced to ground), anytime the radio is turned on.  You need to put the meter on AC voltage and connect the meter leads to the terminals of one speaker.  Red lead on one wire of the speaker, black lead on the other wire of the same speaker.

thank you for the effort. i really do appreciate it, but that does not match what i have in the car. the colors do not match up. i have some browns and a WHITE/ blue and a green yellow ect. can anyone make a suggestion? i am sure that it is an 01, but i am pretty lost at this point.thanks for the help, and remember people are mustards... mustard covered mustards with mustard filling
