back up camera trigger for xdvd8182

I just looked at the schematics. Its the positive line from reverse, as most back up cameras are. Im guessing you got confused at the part of seeing ground at the e-brake switch. If you look they are showing the ground ataching to a chassis ground to the switch. But the brown white wire is a hot wire. The easiest way i have found to do a back up camera is to use the hot wire off the back up light its self. It is much easier to find by simply looking to see the wires coming out from the back up light bulb. Use a volt meter to make sure that you grab the positive lead and tap in there.  Kenwood back up cams use this as there method for hooking in. That way when you go into reverse it turn on the power to the light and the back up camera telling your deck to put it in camera mode.

j.read... I agree with you, when I posted this morning I didn't have enough coffee in me! I meant to say it looks like it could be a positive trigger. And yes the schematic is poor. If you look at the parking brake area, it shows the yellow/blue wire from the deck tied to the brake switch which would be grounded when switch is closed but the problem there is when the switch is closed per the drawing, it shorts the (+) side of the parking (indicator) lamp to ground! OOPS! Now I know the YELLOW /GREEN is ground triggered as it is the safety feature to prevent the head unit from displaying DVD picture unless e-brake is set, (but I ground for operation at all times), (I'm such a law breaker)! But... that's a different issue.

For the reverse trigger, (BROWN / white), it does show connected to B+ thru the shifter. This trigger changes the display to back-up camera automatically when reverse is engaged, (rather than manually switching video input through the osd menu). This head unit is not signal sensing for video switching but you probably already know this.

Here is the reason for my post. I had already called Dual support this morning and talked to a tech. His "no clue" attitude and his slow to respond answer that the WHITE/ brown lead needs a negative input threw me off as it is in direct contradiction to the schematic. I think you and "I am" are correct but didn't want to apply V+ to a neg trigger!

Too bad Dual uses child slave labor or possibly plumbers to draw their schematics! They probably use wire nuts on their installs!

More FYI... I am a Fosgate freak! I collect OLD Fosgates. I have a PR-7000, 2 PR-3500s, 1 PR 220, 4 PR250s and 2 PR 2100s from Jim Fosgates wifes BMW, both modded by Jim and they all work! I bought my first Fosgate, (PR-7000), from Jim in 1976... too wierd huh?
