you did not put any crossovers on them. A lot of them tweeters even with some component units still have to put some kind of bass blocker on the tweeters. sorry to here about the tweets re is a great product i thank. You can call them if they are warrantied.

hmm, you might be giving them too much mid-bass. even with a crossover installed it might not have a sharp enough slope to completely filter a signal that is too low for the tweeter to handle and over time this will blow your tweeters. if you have an EQ installed you should turn it down around the 2k-4k HZ band, if you just have your basic bass, mid treble adjustment then you should try turning down the mid a little bit. you can also try turning down your amp a little bit if the gain is more than 3/4 up.

thanks for the input! They are under warranty that's a good thing! but tearing the car apart and waiting for replacements is no fun.I talked to the tech guy from re he said they have a protect so they don't blow and they never had a problem with them.Hopefully it's just a bad set!

ok i've just about had it with re tweeters i've now went through 5 tweeters on 2 sets of components i have checked and rechecked all wiring checked to make sure no wires had grounded out i can't think of anything else to check other than the cross-overs how can you tell if their working properly? here's what i'm working with, a chevy cavalier, big 3 done,yellow-top,2 sets re 6.5c components, alpine 9851 head unit, alpine 4-ch mrp-250,us amps md1d @1ohm,and 2 fusion 12in power-plants. any help on this would be great!

If you are certain you have the speakers connected to their crossovers correctly, the next thing I'd check is how the gain is set on the mains amp.  If it's too high you could be clipping, and a clipped signal is likely to blow the tweeters first.

thank you for the fast reply! if i remember right these are my settings.the gain is between a 1/2 and 3/4,the cross-overs set between 75 and 90hz the treble on the deck is set to -1,and the treble setting in the eq in the deck 10. i had it set by a audio shop with crap speakers before i bought the re set. i did turn down all there settings.they had them set way higher than i have them set now.the last set of comps had less power handling the re. and i never had a problem with the 3/4in clarion tweeters in fact i'm still using them cause i'm mad about the re tweeters.
