Mustang, Rockford subs problem

My girlfriend had 2 Rockford 10's installed in her 2001 Mustang by a local audio shop and now she has a problem........if you set the balance on the head unit to the middle, you can hardly hear the subs play at all, but if you set the balance to either L or R, BOTH subs play a lot louder.  I'm fairly experienced with car audio and I'm going to take a look at it for her, but I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas before I get started.  It's a factory head unit and I'm pretty sure the amplifier is a mono sub amp.  It sounds like to me that they have something hooked up incorrectly between the head unit and the amplifier.......any thoughts would be appreciated.

If it started happening shortly after they did the install I would take it back to the shop and save yourself the time. Most shops are pretty picky so if you try to do it yourself and don't find the problem don't mention to the shop that you even looked at it. They will problably say you broke it and void any warranty.

Does her stang have a Mach460 stereo? If it does then you've got some other amps to check. Either way, they probably would have had to install a Line Out Converter (converts high level output into low level RCA signal). Check the connections. I agree with Donkason though, if a shop did the work (and it's still under warranty) take it back before you start tearing things apart. The littlest thing can violate their warranties (it's that way for their protection), so it's better to be safe than sorry!Squirrel
