I just installed a new stereo into my 97 toyota 4runner, which had a 10pt connection harness so the 10pt one I bought did not work so I looked up the wire colors and started cutting and connecting.  Well I was left with a illumination wire left over coming from the car, and one of 2 blue wires coming from my radio, the other blue wire is attached to my BLACK/ Red wire for my powered antenna.  My friend told me the other blue is to be ran to my amp with I have not connected yet because I want to get the radio working before I start that headache.  Anyway the problem I am having is that when I turn the car on the stereo turns on fine for a little while and then just starts flashing, then when I turn my headlights on the radio comes on fine.  Why this happens I have no idea, and somehow now my turn signals are not working but the fuse is fine, I have not checked the bulbs yet?   With my 12v tester the BLACK/ Red wire shows a -12 charge.  Maybe I am supposed to tie both blue wires together and connect to my BLACK/ Red?

The stereo I bought was a Sony cdx-GT23w, Tommy the chart you gave me may help me with my speaker problem I did not mention, since the chart I have is diffferent from yours, but my speaker fade and balance is not even close and since your chart lists an amp location it is probably correct, so thanks.  I am an idiot thanks for the response and you may have a good point however I am truely an idiot and not sure what flasher switch you are talking about, and I am not using a harness I cut that thing off and I am crimping new connections.  My new stereo has 2 blue wires one solid and one with white stripe, from what I just read the white striped one should be the one connected to my BLACK/ red antenna since it is powered?

ohhh no I have not reconnected the hazard switch, I am trying to make sure everything works right before I put my console back together, so yeah I guess that would explain the turn signal issue thanks

I believe Blue is Power Antenna...Blue/White is Amp Turn ON! There still is a power/ground issue? Said radio flickers untill you turn on headlights...? The Yellow,Red, and Black wires off stereo are going to what in car...? Dont know if it would cause the flickering but maybe confused speaker wire and illumination?

my real problem is why would my head lights have anything to do with anything, why does my radio just flash until I turn on my lights and then everything starts working?

Have you tried using a volt meter to see which of the 2 power wires, or the ground wire is not providing the current needed for the radio to play?  Meter set to DC volts.  Black lead on the chassis of the radio.  Red lead on the yellow wire then on the red wire of the radio.  Then turn the lights on and check again.  Let us know what you find out.

Ok I tested the connection going into the new radio and this is what I came up with yellow=12v+, Red=12v+, Blue/white=12v-, Gray=12v-.  Now it is a givin at this point I know nothing, my factory radio was a 5 disc changer and tape deck.  When I pulled it out there were 2 male ends I pulled out, the bigger one which goes into the new radio BUS, this one has no charge, however the smaller one which has no where to go in the new radio shows 12v-, not sure if this has any barring on anything.  When I hit the lights my WHITE/ black goes to 12v+ this goes to my purple wire of the car, which I guess means that is my illumination wire and not the green one.  Still not sure how I should change things around?
