I just set up system with alpine head unit and amplifier.  Both units have been in closet for a while.  I wired yellow wire with 14g direct from battery throgh choke coil and useing same size wire grounded back of head unit to steel directly behind head unit.  Still have in place the ground wire that comes with the harness.  Could I have a ground loop.  Suspect its the amp if anything else as I recently had no trouble with head unit. Thanks for imput.

Leave the radio powered up and carefully remove the remote wire from the amp.  Does it still make the pop?  Carefully = make sure you do not touch ground with the wire when you remove it from the amp.
